HW&PCB Designer

Reports to: Product Development Manager

Under the direction of the Product Development Manager performs power line communications circuit design and the layout of printed circuit boards for such circuits. Work from engineering specifications, drawings, and written/verbal instructions.

Analyze engineering specs to develop schematics

Analyze schematics, BOM's, and manufacturer's datasheets to create component footprints. Create PCB floor-plans based on schematics and design engineer's input. Generate manufacturing artwork and documentation for fabrication and assembly data. Works with electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to ensure PCB designs meet Onset standards for signal integrity, compliance, mechanical tolerances, ease of manufacture, and low cost.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Design of circuit schematics for Power Line Communications (PLC) applications, which include:
    • Power supply design.
    • Coupling circuit design.
    • Analog signal filtering design.
  2. Design of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) layouts of Power Line Communications circuits, which include:
    • Component footprint / library creation and maintenance.
    • Gerber files generation.
    • Thermal and mechanical design for PCB products.
    • Create PCB manufacturing release documentation.
    • Perform ECO updates and maintenance to existing PCB designs.
    • Prepare for and participate in schematic and layout design reviews.
    • Create and manage PCB layout schedules.
  3. Board bring up and testing

Requirements:

  • Masters degree in Degree in Telecommunications Engineering/electronic design or equivalent technical experience.
  • 4+ years experience in analog communications circuit design is preferred. Power Line Communication (PLC) applications experience is a plus.
  • Power supply and coupling circuit design.
  • 4+ years experience in PCB layout implementing analog/digital/RF circuits.
  • Proficiency in Altium/OrCAD (or equivalent) Schematic Capture and Layout tools. High speed differential pair circuit and signal integrity analysis including best design practices using Altium, Cadence/Allegro, and Pads Layout.
  • Thermal and mechanical design for PCB products.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing and design for test techniques.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) layout/design techniques. Familiarity with EMC and Safety standards such as EN 50065, or similar.
  • Design Verification Testing methodology.
  • Spice circuit analysis.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Ability to deliver design to schedule in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Fluency in English
